paceline
Claude Code tells you how much of your weekly limit is left, but not whether that is a lot or a little for the days remaining. paceline divides what is left by the days until the reset, gives you today’s budget, and counts it down as you work.
One line, every session
The status line sits under the prompt and updates as you work. Here is how it reads across a typical week.
Status line: Opus 5.5 · acme-portal (dev) · 98% session · 52% week · ● 100% left of today's 17% budget · 2m
Status line: Sonnet 5 · field-app (feat/offline) · 71% session · 88% week · ▲ 64% left of today's 29% budget · 1h 12m
Status line: Opus 5.5 · acme-portal (dev) · 6% session (resets 3:40pm) · 44% week · ▼ 22% left of today's 11% budget · ctx 78% · 3h 5m
Status line: Opus 5.5 · billing-api (fix/webhooks) · 41% session · 23% week · ▼ 118% used of today's 9% budget · 2h 40m
Status line: Opus 5.5 · docs-site (main) · 63% session · 57% week · ● 48% left of today's 14% budget · cache cold: 82k @ ~2x · 47m
Status line: Haiku 4.5 · field-app (main) · 90% session · 12% week · ⏳ last day, resets 9pm · 25m
What each part means
The arrow is pace advice. It compares today’s budget to an even share of the week: ▲ means you have room to push, ▼ means ease off, and ● means about even. A light Monday leaves bigger budgets for the rest of the week.
- Model
Opus 5.5The model, plus effort and fast mode when they are on.
- Project
acme-portal (dev)The folder in a color unique to that project, and its git branch. Easy to tell three sessions apart.
- Session
18% session (resets 3:40pm)Five-hour limit left. The reset time appears once it drops below 30%.
- Week
96% weekWeekly limit left.
- Today
▲ 54% left of today's 28% budgetYour share of the week for today, counting down. Flips to "used" once you go over.
- Warnings
ctx 72% · cache cold: 82k @ ~2xOnly when they matter: the context window filling up, or the prompt cache going cold.
Built to do very little
A status line runs on every refresh, in every repo you open. So paceline is a single binary that reads what Claude Code hands it and prints one line.
- No dependencies. It uses only the Go standard library.
- It never starts processes or touches the network, and the build fails if that changes.
- It strips control characters from folder and branch names, so a hostile repo name cannot hijack your terminal.
- The installer backs up your settings and never overwrites a file it cannot parse.
Install it
Download the binary for macOS, Linux, or Windows from thelatest release (opens in a new tab), or build it with Go. Then point Claude Code at it:
go install github.com/rogadev/paceline/cmd/paceline@latest
paceline installpaceline uninstall puts back whatever status line you had before.
